How to Make Gluten-Free, Dairy-Free Cake Frosting

Every gluten-free, dairy-free kid should still be able to get the birthday cake of their dreams. This simple frosting recipe will help them do it.


1 1/2 lbs. powdered sugar (check that its gluten-free)
1 1/2 cups of shortening (we prefer organic, sustainable palm oil)
1 1/2 teaspoon of gluten-free flavoring (e.g. vanilla extract, almond extract, etc.)
1/4 cup water

Warning: this recipe is NOT paleo. It contains a large amount of powdered sugar, which itself contains a small amount of cornstarch. But it is safe for kids with gluten and dairy allergies.
